About Us - CSI Chennai Chapter

Computer Society of India (CSI) is the first, largest and most professionally managed association of and for IT professionals in India. CSI is a non-profit organization and its members are committed to the advancement of theory and practice of Computer Engineering and Technology Systems.

 

The seed for the Computer Society of India (CSI) was first sown in the year 1965 with a handful of IT enthusiasts who were a computer user group and felt the need to organize their activities. They also wanted to share their knowledge and exchange ideas on what they felt was a fast emerging sector.


Today the purposes of the Society are scientific and educational directed towards the advancement of the theory and practice of computer science & IT.

Activities of Computer Society of India, Chennai chapter started in the year, 1969.


Prof S Sampath served as chairman from the year 1969 to 1975.

Tamil Nadu Govt allotted the land located in Taramani, near Indira Nagar Railway station for lease for CSI.

With the financial assistance from CSI Headquarters, CSI built the office for Education Directorate of CSI consisting of a few office  rooms and a hall to host seminars and was inaugurated in 1986. Education Directorate started functioning from 1987.

CSI Chennai chapter events were regularly conducted in hotels such as Savera, Palm Grove etc. before we had our own building.

The CSI Chennai chapter follows the guidelines of the CSI byelaws for the smooth conduct of the activities of the chapter.
